Is the
Australian Media Biased? You
bet!
Richard Wilkins on the Channel 9
Today show (June 20, 2007)
claimed that the poll,
reproduced below, showed an
overwhelming proportion of
Australians supported tighter
gun laws. Unfortunately for Mr.
Wilkins the total number of
votes recorded at the time he
made this rash statement was 12.
That's right, 12 votes and, of
those 12 votes, 66% were NO. The
results only got worse for Mr
Wilkins after that.
The question asked in the poll was: "Should Australia's
Gun Laws be tightened"
Interesting to note the total
number of votes registered in each poll.
Almost three times as many
people voted in the gun poll than in the
next closest poll in our sample
of the six most recent polls,
which says something about the bias of
many in the media. The poll
running at the time the sample
was taken is not included and had
just six votes as at
11:30 pm, June 29 2007.
